The recipient of the 2020 Emma L. Cunningham Memorial Scholarship is Dooly Zamy from Brooklyn Community High School for Excellence & Equity
An excerpt from Dooly’s essay: "Growing up, I was exposed to all kinds of bad things -- drugs, guns, and prostitution were as common as day and night. As a result, I grew up extremely pessimistic about life. I thought there was nothing that could be done to escape this poverty, which seemed to be all over. Despite these harsh conditions that were present in our community, I loved it and I wanted to help. It sickened me to see that no one cared about our daily lives, and everyone was too busy with their own lives and did nothing for us. I felt that I could not do much to help, because of my limited resources. Yet and still, I did try...."
